“Depended on the Brain Trust”

This line came out of a conversation I had with Ms. Paula Brooks. She explained how during times of segregation, Black people depended on this idea of the “Brain Trust” which essentially was the collective wisdom of the community. At the time Black lawyers lived next to Black teachers lived next to Black custodians lived next to Black athletes, etc. Everyone was next to everyone. Everyone invested back into the community and that collective investment can be referred to as the “Brain Trust.”
