Lyric Breakdown
“Similar to making moves on The Ave”
The Ave is what they called Indiana Avenue, what was a home for Black Hollywood. Read about its downfall here. While some aspects of Indy Ave remain like the Walker Theater, much of it is gone, now owned by IUPUI. What I find interesting is this is a theme across the country: white institutions pricing out and buying up Black land to build their institutions on.
This leads into the lyrics “I know our story been erased from the ground, but never from spirit”
